I'm a retired ophthalmologist with a long-held passion for marine life and photography. I hope my images (www.jillmccartyimages.com, @jillmccartyimages) will help improve understanding and preservation of this fragile, precious world. I studied biology as an undergraduate at Stanford University, including Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station where I published research on polychaete worms and colonial tunicates. A master scuba diver, I have been diving since 1976, and have been an active underwater photographer since 2015.
