I hadn't realized we had Japygidae around here until I flipped this individual. It made up for what was otherwise a lackluster herping excursion.
The darn thing almost never stopped moving, which made for a very long and frustrating photo session, but eventually I got some stellar images out of it. At one point the japygid paused in the substrate to clean its antennae, and at another spent a while poised with only its pincers protruding from the leaf litter. I added the dead leaf to provided a lighter background for the tail.
