This was such a well-behaved toad! It just posed on my younger sister's lunchbox.
About: The Western Toad "digs its own burrow in loose soil or uses those of small mammals, or shelters under logs or rocks" (IUCN Red List). The color of the Western Toad "ranges from reddish-brown to gray to olive green. A cream-colored stripe runs down the middle of the back" (Pacific Bio). Males "lack vocal sacs...although they will emit a chirp when grasped either by other toads or by researchers" (Amphibia Web). These toads are found "primarily in the western United States east to parts of Colorado, and north to extreme southern Alaska" (Reptiles Magazine).
