Description

Good numbers of Eastern Double Drummers seen along the Brunkerville Trail leading into Sugarloaf Conservation Area, with nine counted in one tree within the area indicated, and more all the way to the tops.

Several carcasses were found on the trail itself, including two intact females that did not appear to have been predated. These were collected even before the ants had found them, and pinned while still supple. An intact male, partially buried in sand after being washed down the track by rain the previous night, was rigid. These are shown in the photos. The second photo also includes four of the five carcasses collected.

About a week earlier, a single Double Drummer was seen in a smooth-barked Eucalypt on the banks of Bangalow Ck near the end of Leiberts Lane, but otherwise they were not in evidence along Leiberts Lane.
