I encountered a substantial roosting concentration of Chihuahuan Ravens just after sunset (6:10 p.m. local time) along FM 2185 about 6 mi NE of Van Horn, TX. I'm attaching one "close up" of a few individuals in which the birds can be identified as ravens by the heavy bills and the wedged-shaped tail (lower right bird). The second photo shows just a portion of the flock estimated to be upwards of 300 ravens. I made a quick count of about 160 black dots in this photo. The third shot of the flock is just for scenic value!
The birds were also easily identified by their relatively higher pitched "craa-ack" calls, higher than those of Common Raven.
