Description
I believe that this small bird specimen is a Northern Mockingbird, the state bird of Texas. The species is very common in the Southern United States and is marked by its grey belly and black wings. This specimen has both markings. I could not hear the specimen sing; however the specimen appears to have enough physical markings to distinguish it from other birds. It was surprisingly calm and allowed me to get quite close before flying away to a nearby tree. I would say it was about 1 foot high from head to foot, but I am not entirely sure of that due to my inability to get close. It was spotted near the edge of a forest and close to a major avenue. It was also spotted during the early hours of sundown or late afternoon.
