Slangbos

Typical of veld disturbed (as in this case by pine plantation) and then allowed to recover without a hot fire, the vegetation is dominated by species that have surface seed banks and prefer cool fire conditions, such as this Slangbos. The seedbanks of species that prefer hot fire are probably still present and ready to germinate: they just need a fire!
Age of veld unknown: overstorey proteas eliminated by pine plantations (now removed) so cannot determine veld age.
