Pansy Shell (Echinodiscus bisperforatus)

Observer

Date

February 2015

Description

Echinodiscus bisperforatus (Pansy Shell)

The lack of spines on these shells show that the animal is dead. On the lower surface the mouth is at the centre and the radiating grooves conduct tiny organisms to the mouth. The pansy is the pattern made the tiny holes that allow the tube feet to penetrate through the test (calcium carbonate shell).
