Carex eleocharis (C. stenophylla or C. duriuscula), needleleaf sedge, is sporadic in open rangeland settings in the area around Pony Montana. Although locally abundant, plants are typically scattered in low densities. Here, needleleaf sedge co-occurs with western wheatgrass, Agropyron smithii.
