Mangrove Cuckoo
Port Bolivar, Texas
12 January 1982
This incredible bird provided the 2nd Texas record for this species; the first one was in 1964. The bird was seen for about a two week period and the record was published in a number of journals. There are now (2012) about a dozen Texas records of this species.
This is the Mexican race of Mangrove Cuckoo which is darker backed, and more deeply buffy on the breast than the Caribbean birds which occur in Florida, Puerto Rico, etc.
