What

Masked Booby (Sula dactylatra)

Observer

gcwarbler

Date

August 8, 2015

Description

This is the only bird species I could get useful images of on today's deepwater pelagic birding trip off of South Padre Island. This cooperative adult booby stayed on the water as we approached to within about 25 yards before it took off and relocated a short distance. One of two seen on the trip.

Also encountered on the trip (and photographed by several other birders) were:
Band-rumped Storm-Petrel (at least a few)
Leach's Storm-Petrel (at least 10 to 15; most on any modern Texas pelagic)
Pomarine Jaeger (5 individuals with close looks)
