What

Puget Sound White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys ssp. pugetensis)

Observer

rjadams55

Date

January 24, 2016

Description

With its dingy white head stripes, yellow bill, brown-striped back, and short primary projection, this is clearly one of the Pacific subspecies. The Nuttall's White-crowned subspecies has never been found away from the immediate coast while the Puget Sound White-crowned Sparrow is common in California's near coastal ranges in winter.
