This lizard was basking on a tree trunk on the banks of the White Nile River a short boat ride from the source of the Nile. My guess at his size is over 5-6 inches tall. The head is broad and it has long tapering tail. Its head is electric blue; body a deep blue; rump and upper portion of tail are a dull orange to cream to brown color; end of tail is blue. It stayed still as we watched from a small boat. It was not a quiet neighborhood, because of a large troupe of vervet monkeys nearby in the trees & shrubs. Photo © by Anita Nardine.
