Snowberry Clearwing (Hemaris diffinis) is found throughout North America "except Alaska, Yukon, Nunavut, and Newfoundland," according to BugGuide's information on the species. Adults feed on nectar and fly from March to September (with two broods in the southern reaches of its range and perhaps only one in the colder northern reaches of the same). We need to identify the flower that our moth was feeding on. If anyone knows the answer we'd much appreciate your sharing your knowledge with us. There are at least two other species of similar-looking moths in North America including Slender Clearwing (Hemaris gracilis) and Hummingbird Clearwing (Hemaris thysbe). Because of its broad presence in North America, Snowberry Clearwing is clearly an authentic resident of the Western Hemisphere.
