Description

Crotalus sp.

On the drive up from San Antonio to Fort Worth I was getting restless in traffic so I pulled off and looked around for a bit.

I stumbled on two rattlesnakes mating (or maybe trying to mate or maybe just next to each other) while looking for dragonflies. The second snake is best visible in the third image, its head in the bottom right corner. I will try to find a better one demonstrating both.

The rattlesnakes did me no harm but I did get bit by a fly and it hurt like hell and left a welt. Not sure what it was and I didn't get any shots because I instinctively swatted at my arm and scared it.

I shot a couple of different views but they were down in a marshy area and I didn't have boots and I didn't want to disturb them so I didn't go down for more.
