Walking back down on the Tanque Verde trail, about 1½ miles out from the trailhead, came around the bend and saw the Gila monster scrambling away from me. I had to dig my camera out of the bag pretty frantically to get some pictures before it scurried off into the scrub & cacti on the left (southeast) side of the trail.
