Female NFG arriving at the nest to relieve the male, who can seen leaving. For the last 18 years, we have observed how a pair of Northern Flicker (Guatemalan) has nested here every year. They usually occupy this same hole in a tall cypress tree, at about 15m height. This year, they had to reclaim the hole from the resident Acorn Woodpeckers, who occupy at least four additional holes in three nearby cypresses, and who did put up some resistance when the NFGs insisted on reclaiming "their" nesting hole.
