Culms compressible. Perigynia not distinctly ovate (as in C. conjuncta and C. alopecoidea). Beaks not over 2x as long as body of perigynia (over 2x in C. crus-corvi and C. s. maxima). Ventral face of sheath cross-puckered (smooth in C. laevivaginata)
