Elada Checkerspot Ssp. Ulrica (Texola elada ulrica)

Elada Checkerspot was observed at the park's excellent Butterfly Garden. Elada Checkerspot (Texola elada) has three subspecies according to Butterflies of America, see: https://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/t/Texola_elada_a.htm. Elada Checkerspot is a North American species whose range encompasses parts of the US Southwest and most of Mexico. Texola elada hepburni flies in Northwest Mexico while Texola elada elada flies in Central and Southern Mexico. The third species, Texola elada ulrica flies in Central, West, and South Texas and Northeastern Mexico. The specimen represented here is therefore Texola elada ulrica.

Sizes
