Corpse of male Celithemis fasciata

I'm not sure what happened here. I looked up and thought I saw a male perched so drew closer and then realized it was not moving but appeared to be suspended in a reasonable perching spot, relatively undisturbed/decomposed.

I should've taken closer photos of the head...it looks like there are spiderwebs around it but I am not entirely positive about that. Maybe a fungus. It seemed odd a bird hadn't consumed it.

It was a bit breezy and the dragonfly was not dislodged nor did this appear recent.
