Locally common in deep pools of water above a waterfall in the upper Kaipatiki Stream. Thallus dark red-black to crimson purple when fresh, apices crimson, often tightly curled. Associated with Fissidens rigidulus var. rigidulus. Location is c.1.6 km from an estuary (upper reaches of the Waitemata Harbour)

This is the second time I have found this species in a fresh water stream in the Auckland Region.
