Description

"HELL YEAH!!! After nearly two days of searching I finally found an azorean bullfinch, locally called 'Priolo'. Finding the species was not as easy as I thought it would be. Observations made in June-July-August (when most tourists are on the Island) are mostly near Serra da Tronqueira (pico Bartolomeu) which is a totally different biotope. I think that the conditions are too harsh here in April (when I went searching here, there was always fog, rain and a lot of wind) and that the birds are more in biotopes like where I found them in (see pictures below). For more places check www.birdingazores.com or contact the priolo centre: http://life-priolo.spea.pt/en/environmental-interpretation-center-of-pedreira/priolo-environmental-center/
some extra info that can help you find the birds: the birds are very silent and always sitting low to the ground. Never in the top of a tree like the finches and canaries do. Look for the pink polygonum (http://observado.org/waarneming/view/83639321) and Pteridium aquilinum of which they eat."
