Description

Numbering from north to south, this was the third of four Nevin's Barberries spotted in the bench (floodplain?) east of Cobal Canyon in the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. This individual was about 20' west of Cobal Canyon Mtwy.

The shrub measured 7'5" tall by 11'3" wide in the E-W direction and 15'8" wide in the N-S direction.

This barberry was contiguous and intertwined with White flowering Current (Ribes indecorum) on the west side and a small Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) on the east. Chilicothe
(Marah macrocarpa) and Southern Honeysuckle (Lonicera subspicata) were growing on the shrub. Other nearby plants included Western Sycamore (Platanus racemosa), Mule Fat (Baccharis salicifolia, Toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia), Spiny Redberry (Rhamnus crocea), California Buckwheat (Eriogonum fasiculatum), Tocalote (Centaurea melitensis), and Bromus sp.
