Description

This moss was found at Lettuce Lake Park in Tampa, Florida on February 21, 2020 at approximately 12:30 PM. The weather was cloudy, windy, and chilly. This moss was found in a wet swamp like area surrounded by many other cyprus tree knees that were covered in the moss. The moss was yellow-green in color with small leaflets along the area of the moss. It was identified as Isopterygium due to its color and density on the cyprus knee. It was dense in some areas and became thin near the high parts of some cyprus knees. Isopterygium moss is found in subtropical and tropical areas much like Florida's environment. Common regions for this moss is North America, South America, Mexico, the West Indies, Africa and Australia. Only 11 out of all the counties in Florida have not vouched for identifying Isopterygium in their areas.
