This fungi was growing in various ages and sizes on a dead Pine tree. This tree had fallen over in a wind storm about one year ago.
The fungi was soft and looked like a well baked bread. The tops were a reddish brown and underneath was more of a golden yellow color. This puffball type fungi was attached with a rudimentary stem and covered the tree like chicken pox. There were hundreds of these on there. I cut one open to reveal a chamber inside. One side of the chamber had pores the other thinner-walled side had no pores. The specimens I collected were between 20-45 mm.
The "caps" or the outside of the specimen started cracking after I brought them home.
They are dry, and kind of velvety. They are kind of an interesting mushroom.
