I read on AllAboutBirds that females do not dive. But I observed her doing so, as seen in these photos. She dove deep enough that the water was almost undisturbed. Then she reappeared 5’-10’ away.
Is this unusual behavior? They were in the middle of the pond, so I don’t know how deep the water is.
