Description

Exposed by uplifting of one of several abandoned plastic mesh bags uder a Flame Tree, each bag covering 2-3 square metres. This one was the first bag to be revealed under the Flame Tree while controlling honeysuckle and Tradescantia.

This bag was gradually moved aside over a period of weeks, to free it from the roots growing through it. The first folding back of the bag revealed several very active invertebrates. The bag was loosely replaced, and the ground covered with some loose Tradescantia, to restore their habitat, albeit less secure and some moist no doubt lost.

Tradescantia is being conserved under this stand of Flame Tree at present as a ground cover, due to severe drought inhibing all replacement ground cover except the most aggressive of weeds. So it will at least for the time being remain as habitat for any of these invertebrates that use it.

The inverts can be seen as a group via the Field at right "Invertebrates in and under long-standing refuse and equipment"
