Description

Basal leaves up in swamp at edge of marsh and slough, in small burned patch where one individual blossomed last fall. ID from Nabalus albus by winged, toothed leaf stalk and last year's flower stalk which had many drooping flowers as opposed to erect. Looks similar to the nearby Silphium perfoliatum, but differs in color of fleshy stem and taste.
