Growing on small ledges on a cliff on a hot, dry south-facing slope. FNA key differentiates P. canescens from P. lanceolata based on groove angled scapes in the later, which P. canescens lacks. The specimen presented in this observation does not have groove angled scapes. Other plant species in the vicinity include Artemisia frigida and Erigeron compositus. Vegetation type would be best as barrens/partially vegetated but the choice list under "Vegetation type (Alaska)" doesn't include that option. Alpine tundra is best fit from available options.
