Summer Flounder (Paralichthys dentatus)

Description

Similar to Southern Flounder, but we are north of their range. NOTE: I think their range will move north with rising global ocean temps, like many other species, and the range of overlap between Southern and Summer Flounder will probably soon include the lower Chesapeake (it's currently only north about as far as Virginia Beach). Seperated from Winter flounder by the three ringed, dark, eye-like spots near the tail, and it faces left when the eyes are oriented above the mouth (see second photo).
