Description

Since last fall, University of North Texas Ecology graduate student Sara van der Leek has been hard at work tracking down three-toed box turtles at LLELA Lewisville Lake in hopes of better understanding their habitat to create an environment where they can thrive. These turtles are considered a vulnerable species, but after a release of another nine individuals this weekend as part of the project's "head start" initiative, Sara and her team (which includes dedicated staff and undergrads at the University of North Texas as well as Friends of LLELA volunteers) will have helped triple the population since the efforts began in 2018.
