Heniocha moths - some ID help for adults and caterpillars

A quick and dirty comparison of the southern African species: ADULTS

Images courtesy of:
H. marnois @jaheymans
H. dyops @alexdreyer
H. apollonia @shauns

H. marnois has more pointed forewings than H. dyops.
H. apollonia has eye-spots on the hindwings which the other two species lack.

A key to the CATERPILLARS is on the Pillar Parade project.

Thank you, Sam!

{I have to know: how on earth did you find this journal post?}

Posted by karoopixie about 3 years ago

Haha -- I go through lots of the journal posts -- on the main page, under the 'community' tab, it has a 'journal posts.' Many of the journal posts are from students doing it for class assignments or promotions for nature events, but every once in a while, there's a great one like yours! :) Keep these up! Even though I haven't been to Africa to enjoy these moths, these journal entries allow me to live vicariously through your observations/records. :) So, thanks!

Thank you for the directions and your kind words :-) Somehow I missed the "Journal entries" on the menu! Mind you, I hardly ever look at the Community menu...
