Caddo Lake BioBlitz

Join Texas Nature Trackers on a BioBlitz at Caddo Lake! We will explore the flora and fauna of this unique bald cypress swamp. This is a weekend event focusing on documenting as many species as possible in this WMA, State Park, and National Wildlife Refuge using iNaturalist or eBird. Please comment if you would like to lead a specific taxonomic survey or interpretive program.

Friday June 7
• 7pm Owling at Caddo Lake State Park

Saturday June 8 (tentative)
• 9am-6pm Welcome and Boat Launch at Caddo Lake WMA
• 6am-10am Birding with Craig at Caddo Lake State Park
• 3pm- 6pm Botanizing Eastern site of Caddo Lake State Park
• 7pm: Mothing, owling, and frog acoustic surveys

Sunday June 9 (tentative)
• 6am - 10am Birding at Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge
• 9am-12pm Botanizing at Western site of Caddo Lake State Park
• 12pm History program at Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge

• Vanessa Neace, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
• Lane Neely, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department

Who are the participants?
• YOU!
• Citizen scientists, Master Naturalists, Nature enthusiasts
• All ages, all abilities, all experience levels

What is asked of the participants?
• BRING YOUR OWN KAYAK OR CANOE
o You can rent a kayak or canoe from Riverbend Outfitters. Reserve via (903) 625-9100 as soon as possible
• Submit data to Texas Nature Tracker projects on iNaturalist
• (optional) Provide photos to hosts or iNaturalist with Creative Commons license

What do participants need to know?
• Parking is at the Caddo Lake WMA boat launch or along county roads
• No bathrooms, no air conditioning, no food service
• Participation can be self-directed, or a part of a group. Come and go as you please!
• Texas Master Naturalists must check with their chapter for volunteer hours approval
• Bring your own water, food, and phone or camera
• It is a wetland. Bring waders or high rubber boots
• Camping is available at Caddo Lake State Park; Book early!
