combing Inaturalist

I have spent a few hours doing various searches on here to find observations of lightning strikes on nature.
I have run out of ideas for now on what to search for.
I find it interesting that I found no observations for Africa or South America. Either there aren't as many observers there, I am searching the wrong species, I am not able to search due to the language difference, or lightning evidence is different via too wet or dry conditions.

I did my best to search all the types of trees I could think of. The taxonomy tree is a bit difficult to capture all tree species.

I know there are probably a lot more observations, but the observer didn't include any wording in their description that I could search for. I did try searching via a couple different major languages too.

I am surprised at how many I found. When starting this project, I didn't expect to find that many. I also didn't add some observations that hinted at lightning but I could not verify ...more ↓

About

This project is for trees and wildlife struck by lightning.
I have always been interested in this.
My hope is that it will be useful to researchers.
My hypothesis is that lightning caused fires are less of a concern in certain regions of the world than feared. The impacts of global warming can also have implications on dry soils and dry lightning storm types.
If anyone wants ...more ↓
