Do you share observations with eBird and iNat? Want to learn how to flag shared observations and/or link to associated media?

If you are reading this article, I assume that you are or plan to share your observations with both iNat and eBird.
Below are a set of directions that can help ‘link’ these observations.

  1. Record observation – photo or sound clip
  2. Share observations.
    a. Upload observation to iNaturalist. Note the iNat identifier.
    b. Upload observation/checklist to eBird. Note the eBird identifier.

  3. Add note to observations.
    a. In iNaturalist add comment in the notes/description field. Example ‘This observation also shared with eBird [insert eBird identifier]
    b. In eBird add comment(s) to the checklist or as individual species note. Example ‘This observation (including photos) was also recorded on iNaturalist: [insert iNat identifier]’

  4. Populate recommended observation field*. To indicate that the observation is shared with eBird simply share the eBird identifier: eBird [enter the eBird identifier]

*NOTE: Join the iNat project ‘eBird observations - Nova Scotia, Canada' and then associate the observation with this project. Observation fields associated with the project will automatically become visible simplifying the ‘add fields’ task.
