The Irving Headquarters site actively participates in the Wildlife Habitat Council conservation certification program and was re-certified as a Gold Program in 2016. An important part of this process is documenting wildlife observations on our site. Employee contributions are critical for the success of our program. When you see a bird, mammal, reptile, insect, or plant, please use the iNaturalist app to record your observation or upload your photos. While you’re using the app, you may find it interesting to see what others have observed on site.

Directions for User:

1. Download the iNaturalist mobile app to your smart phone or device (iOS or Android from
   the app store

2. Create an iNaturalist account using your personal email address and a unique password

3. Join the campus iNaturalist Project, called “EM HQ Wildlife at Work” (from app:
   click “More”, “Projects”, search “EM HQ Wildlife at Work”, click “Join”).

4. Begin making observations! Simply take a photo of the species (safely!); you can upload
   later if needed
   a. You don’t need to know what it is! You can make an initial guess (perhaps you know
   it is a bird or even in the cardinal family but don’t know the species). The
   observation will be released to the community to “crowdsource” the identification
   once you submit it. Check back to see what they identify!
   b. Select whether cultivated (i.e., for landscaped plants) or natural/wild (natural is
   preferred)
   c. Must be on campus or trails for campus observations
   d. To submit to the campus iNaturalist project, under “Projects”, select “EM HQ
   Wildlife at Work” before clicking “Share”.

FAQs & How-To

• What is an observation? An observation is a record of an encounter with an organism at a particular time and location. A photo provides evidence and helps identify the organism is unknown, but you can also make an observation without a photo.
• You should make a separate observation for each organism you encounter (e.g., 2 different bird species in a tree would be 2 observations) .
• How to make an observation with your phone :

1. Add one or more photos as evidence (take a photo, upload a saved photo, or select “no photo”)
2. Enter what you saw (or leave blank if you don’t know)
3. Enter when you saw it (typically filled in automatically)
4. Enter where you saw it (typically filled in automatically)
5. Under “Projects”, select the “EM HQ Wildlife at Work” project (for campus observations).
6. Save your observation and upload it to share with the community.
7. Check back for activity later to see what was identified!
