A project to compile all the observations of students in the ECCB 301. Please provide a specific date and location details for your observations and provide enough to pictures to 1) Observe the plant in its natural habitat; do this zoomed out, sometimes seeing the plants around it or the general habitat type can determine species, 2) take zoomed-in pictures and be as detailed as possible of the A) stem, include the bark if a woody species; B) leaves, make sure to note any leaf variation; C) inflorescence: cones, sporangia, flowers, or fruits; D) roots - if an herbaceous plant (make sure to include rhizomes/stolons).
For every observation, please provide a specific date and location details for your observations. Each observation requires multiple photos. Provide the following pictures:
• At least one zoomed out plant in its habitat.
• Zoomed in, detailed pictures of the:
a. Stem, including bark if the species is woody
b. Leaves, making sure to note any variation among leaves, the arrangement of the leaves on the stem, and whether the leaves are compound or simple
c. Flowers, fruits, inflorescences, cones, sporangia, as present.
d. Roots, if the species is herbaceous (non-woody). Make sure to include rhizomes and/or stolons, if present.
Edit the details to ensure that the Date and Location data are accurate. Then, click on “What did you see” to input the species identification. Note that iNaturalist will offer you some suggestions. These are helpful, but you will need to key out the species in order to provide the correct identification. Finally, click on “Projects” to add the observation to the class project.
