The TL2 Project of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was initiated in 2007 by the Lukuru Foundation in collaboration with the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN). Since 2019, the project is based with the Frankfurt Zoological Society. The purpose of the TL2 project was to discover, document and protect the biodiversity of DRC's middle Lomami Basin from the Tshuapa watershed from the west to the Congo-Lualaba in the east. Lomami National Park (LNP) was established in 2016 as a result of the TL2 Project's documentation of the significant biodiversity of the landscape and the threats to it, primarily uncontrolled hunting and poaching of nationally protected species. For further information on the LNP and TL2 Project see www.bonoboincongo.com.
The purpose of this iNaturalist project is to promote the identification of the faunal diversity of the LNP and its surrounding landscape. We recognize that for many taxa, the TL2 region is poorly documented. We hope the observations we provide here will promote a better knowledge of the this area and understanding of the factors determining the diversity of its faunas.
The observations here were produced by bio-monitoring patrol teams, camera trap surveys, taxon-specific surveys and opportunistic encounters. Many individuals have contributed and are credited when possible. Observations from camera trap surveys are noted as such and credited to the specific project and project leader.
