The City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department advises the public that it will commence its mowing schedule at parks and public open spaces at the end of November 2022, to allow for spring flowers and a variety of indigenous plants to bloom – not just for aesthetic appeal, but also in aid of conservation.

The City's Recreation and Parks Department has adopted a 'no mowing' position during late winter and early spring.
...

Residents can apply for their community park or portions of green spaces in their area to be added to the list.

Email RP.Enquiries@capetown.gov.za with the location, some evidence of the flowers and support from neighbours living in close proximity to the area.

If your park or green belt is a now mow zone, but does not yet feature in this project, tell us below.

Still waiting for press releases!!

No instructions yet for 2022.
But in 2021:

https://www.facebook.com/CityofCT/posts/grow-dont-mow-spring-flowers-applications-now-openas-winter-comes-to-a-close-the/4238881562815397/
https://www.capetown.gov.za/Media-and-news/'Grow,%20don't%20mow'%20spring%20flowers%20applications%20now%20open

from the latter:

"The City currently (August 2021) has 63 listed areas where mowing will not take place and are currently engaging with contractors to create awareness, ensuring that scheduled maintenance takes these areas into account.

There is great focus being placed on educating internal and contractor staff to be sensitised to the requests from residents in order to limit the risk of accidental mowing.

Residents are encouraged to submit applications for the City to avoid mowing grass in a certain park in their area in writing to RP.Enquiries@capetown.gov.za.

However, it is important that the letter is supported by the local community and that there is consensus between the neighbours who will see uneven grass and spurts of growth left unattended to facilitate the growth of the flowers."

So please dont wait for the press releases. Apply now.
