BioBlitz results!

Thanks everyone for joining our fall BioBlitz at Hellyer Park! And Happy Thanksgiving!
The continuous low water levels in Cottonwood Lake created a new habitat - mudflats - attracting shorebirds that are not often seen here. These include American Avocet, Least and Spotted Sandpiper, and Long-billed Dowitcher. In addition, we saw some of our usual pond birds such as American Coots, Canada Geese, and ducks - Mallards, Northern Shoveler, and Ruddy Ducks (winter visitors). The turtles had to squeeze together on the few rocks and logs that are still submerged, as most of the rocks were completely out of the water.
It was still a bit dry for mushrooms, but we did record a few, and even some slime molds - one of the participants spotted a beautiful Honeycomb Coral Slime! Hopefully we'll see plenty more mushrooms, slime molds, birds, and everything else on our next visit to Hellyer Park, on 2/12/2023. We hope to see you there as well!

Thank you Merav for another fun event! I was slow to upload my observations - I think I have most of them now.
