19,000 observations; data 2017 summary

Season's greetings.

Many thanks to all 150 people who've contributed 8,443 observation data in 2017. That is a fantastic effort. over 1000 species recorded! (1063 in total). A really big thanks to the 122 people who have contributed to identification of observations.

That effort has resulted in 19,004 observations being logged as of 18:05 on 31st December 2017 (HKG time) since the project started in 2011. If the contributions keep coming at this rate of increase, we will pass 30K observations in 2018 !

I will be meeting, along with other stakeholders, the AFCD at the end of January, to see how govt intend to implement a more open HK Biodiversity Database. Naturally, I'll point out the way one can use iNat, including it's "Guide" function, for all to see how HK (Govt) can be seen as a more open and transparent operator of biological data, and how these data can be used for the benefit of society.

A Happy New Year to you all.

Roger.
