As the Salton Sea deteriorates, bird populations are crashing.

A decade ago, Guy McCaskie would stand on the shore of the Salton Sea and marvel at the vast masses of birds that congregated on the water and flew overhead. Nowadays he looks out over the lake and is saddened by how few birds he sees.

They did a great job with the story. I just wish I wouldn't have under estimated the depth of the mud where we were at when I had to grab the dead grebe. As soon as I jumped out of the boat I sunk up to my waist (as you can see). Would have been nice to look a little more professional for a national news story.
