Summary
De Belair, G., Vela, E. & R. Boussouak (2005): Inventory of Numidian orchids (NE Algeria) from twenty years.- Jour. Eur. Orch. 37 (2): 291-401. This first survey is not exhaustive. Nevertheless, it collects within six countries (wi/aya) thirty-four orchid species (and two hybrids) concerning the indicated fifty species in Algeria. This paper opens up a field put aside since 1948 and most probably before the second World War, from the botanical and geographical point of view. One hundred and twenty-nine habitats have been explored. This paper submits a general review of the history of the Orchids of Northern Africa and the regions prospected in eastern Algeria. This description leads liS to present the survey of species by species of Algeria shortly compared to that of Tunisia. Every orchid species is the subject of discussion. All the habitats are threatened. Therefore, the Orchids are highly vulnerable. So, suggestions are presented on protection and conservation, opening up new horizons for the future. We find in the annex a review of the habitats of Orchids with their floristic assemblages, dates of observations, and other mesological characteristics.
