This project will monitor the annual Pacific Newt migration in the area around Lexington Reservoir. Only live newt observations should be added to this project. Don't include injured ones; they go in another subproject. This project will be rolled up into the following umbrella project to give a complete picture of the live vs dead newts in this area:

Cool info about newts:

• There are two species of newts in this area: T. torosa and T. granulosa.
• Pacific Newts can live up to 14 years.
• The newts in the Lexington Reservoir area are not migrating to the reservoir, as it might appear (the fish would eat them). They breed in small ponds and creeks (probably Limekiln Creek and Soda Springs Creek).
• The Rough-skinned Newt is the most poisonous amphibian in California. The poison this newt produces is similar to that created by the puffer-fish (a tetrodotoxin). Taricha newts can be lethal to humans if ingested.
