HTH newt photos

I uploaded 191 photos of newts on 1/12 and 1/13. Two photos were of the same newt, the rest were separate observations. Most have them had pretty good coordinates. I didn't change any coordinates. I added coordinates in a few cases, where there was a similar file name, taken on the same date and within a couple of minutes. For other observations missing coordinates, I've asked HTH for more info (33 files, shared on 12/16, 12/29, and 1/8).
I still need to compare the uploaded photos with observations our team made near the HTH sites, to remove all duplicates. If anyone is interested in this task, please let me know. We could also wait a little bit until I'll get the missing photos.

@merav, I can help look for duplicates. Let me know what to do.
Forgive me for having a suspicious mind, but it seems the number of photos they've shared of the "extremely high mortality" sections of road is a very low count compared to the number of dead newts our team has reported for the same time frame.

that's what we've got....
Could you compare our team's observations on this project with the HTH observations the same day and the next day? In the regular project
(Pacific Newts (Roadkill, 2020-2021)) you could look at the journal post for the relevant dates. We usually wrote there that we found x observations in front of the array or near it. Some observations we made before the HTH team walked the road, and in some cases afterward. In the first option, HTH could have noticed them the same day we did, in the 2nd option it could have been the next day.
If you find duplicates - what would you do? We should remove them from the project, so we won't count them twice, but we might want to keep them on iNat and link to the HTH observation? most of their photos are too small and blurry.
I hope this is clear. I'm not sure it is:)

Ok, @merav. I'll start working on it and let you know what I find.

thanks!

@merav, the photos made by our team are better quality than HTH and include rulers, measurements, and other annotations. I think we should keep the observations made by our team, add a copy of the HTH picture to these observations, and then delete the HTH duplicate observations.

For example, for this pair of duplicates:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/66862849 (@tyap)
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/68015934 (HTH)

The first was photographed by @tyap and is nicely annotated and measured, so I don't want to delete it. For some of the earlier duplicates, you combined your pictures with the HTH picture, thus coalescing the two observations. Could we do that with other duplicates? That is, can we add the HTH photo to Tiffany's observation and delete the duplicate HTH observation?

I don't have permissions to do this. Perhaps Tiffany could do it?

What @merav and I decided to do:
When there are duplicates (i.e., a dead newt is photographed by both HTH and a member of our team):

(1) Mark the HTH observation with the tag "HTH duplicate".
(2) Add Comments to both observations of a pair of duplicates with the URL of the duplicate.
(3) Add the HTH photograph to the Population Study project only.
(4) Add the Newt Patrol observation to the seasonal project only (not the population study project).
