Identify observations of the red flowering form of Costus pictus which is found in Pacific coastal regions of Mesoamerica. Taxonomic research is needed to determine whether a new species should be described. DNA data from samples of this form indicate it is in a separate evolutionary lineage from other forms of Costus pictus.
