About
Oakland was named for majestic oak woodlands dotting our hills and alluvial plains. Photos from 1850-1860 show massive trees in the middle of downtown streets.
Still today, a few of these original oaks peek out from backyards.
This project seeks to document the natural ecosystems at play in a city noted for its development and industry.
