No newts is bad news during salamander mating season in foothills.

They don’t know that the newts are missing, that I’ve seen an alarming few this year, not including another two dead. They’re not recorded in my log; I didn’t want to remember them, but I do anyway, their images impressed upon my memory, their small bodies pressed into the road, drying like jerky in the sun.

I know what you mean... The images of those hundreds of dead newts that I saw and photographed this season are burned in my memory. I didn't want to remember them that way either. But I saw very few live newts this year.

@truthseqr , you should contact the author of that article. You both have something in common, maybe write a collaborative article on the disappearance of newts.

She takes notes on newts, essentially like being on iNat.

I bet her data could be added to your own to tell a compelling story.
