Taxonomic notes: Broadley and Wallach (2009) assigned this species, formerly in Typhlops, to the newly-erected genus Afrotyphlops. These authors also revalidated four of the five species synonymized within T. lineolatus by Roux-Estève (1974), and elevated the subspecies T. l. tanganicanus to full species status. Taxonomic issues may remain, as Broadley and Wallach (2009) did not consider West African (nominate) populations, and L. Chirio (pers. comm. 2012) suggests that those east of central Nigeria may not be conspecific with West African A. lineolatus.
