Taxonomic notes: This taxon is a species complex, in particular, the Arabian populations need to be further evaluated (S. Baha El Din pers. comm.). The systematics of this form are currently undergoing taxonomic revision (Trape et al. 2012).

Geographic Range

Occurs also in Kassala, eastern Sudan, immediately adjacent to the Eritrean border. Probably enters the latter country also from its western side, and not only occurs along the coast.

I would say that before this cryptic complex was not evaluated you cannot say anything about threats because maybe you get a bunch of small endemic species after the revision.

I agree. We still do not know very much about the taxonomic structure of this complex. The populations from eastern Sudan, however (including the Red Sea mountains) - whatever they are taxonomically - appear to be very stable. The species also goes into disturbed habitats there.

    In E Sudan the species occurs in immediate vicinity of settlements, and also seems to do well in overgrazed areas, or places disturbed by recent construction.
